"From January 1886 Burma was a province of the Indian Empire but was separated from India and came under direct British Administration from April 1937", Gibbons [1].

Scott [2] identifies two phases of occupation:
- Issued by the Burma Independence Army, in conjunction with the Japanese occupiers (Sc1N1-1N49, SG-J1-J36). These are overprinted with the image of a peacock. There are some issues specific to Myaungmya. The Scott and Gibbons listings do not coincide.
- Japaness Army Occupation (Sc2N1-2N64, SG-J45-J71)
- Gibbons [1] splits the Occupation issue at Sc-2N9, SG-J72, noting that in "November 1942 the Japanese Army Administration handed over control of the postal department to the Bermese Government. [In] August 1943 Burma was declared by Japan to be independent".
Both catalogues list British Military Administration issues in 1945 (Sc35-50, SG35-50).

In January 1948 Burmah became independent and in 1990 changed its name to Myanmar.
† Scott starts Myanmar one set before Gibbons. Gibbons first is SG312, Sc304.
