On 30th July 1969 Spanish Guinea divided into two Spanish Overseas Provinces, Rio Muni and Fernando Po. Rio Muni comprised mainland Spanish Guinea and the islands of Elobey and Corisco.

On 12th October 1960, Rio Muni rejoined Fernando Po to form the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
