Zanzibar and Tanganyika

There was an Indian post office in Zanzibar for a few months from November 1868 and Indian stamps were used for a service administered from British East Africa from 1875. Zanzibar was a British proctectorate until independence in December 1963

After a revolt in January 1964, a republic was established. Zanzibar joined Tanganyika in April 1964 to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, later renamed Tanzania.

France maintained offices in Zanzibar from 1894 until the British protectorate in 1906.
