Modena #1
« on: June 19, 2004, 04:30:46 AM »

My Scott doesn't date the first Modena set other than as 1852. I have just noticed that my Gibbons Part 8 (5th edn, not the latest) dates the 5c Sc1 SG1 as 2nd September 1852 and the 10c Sc2 SG3 as 2nd June 1852.

The FICC catalogue dates Sc1 as 1st June. Are there other cataolgues which confirm this? (Mackay's Classic Stamps dates the whole first set as 1st June).

Cheers

Nick,

One other vote for the June 1st is the web site cited by Jesper at the bottom of the FICC catalog page for Modena #1.  Without other conflicting information, I would take this web site to suggest the entire first issue was on June 1st (as our catalog indicates).

Thanks Tim

I'm hoping that's the case, as I already have a #1.

Nick,

According to both the German catalogue Michel and the Italian catalogue Catalogo Enciclopedico Italiano the entire first set was issued at June 1st 1852.
