The basics are done on USA 1c and $1:

http://www.snap-dragon.com/usa_1_cent_stamps.htm

Can anyone let me know what has happened after my catalogues run out.

Cheers, Nick

Nick,

My personal Scott catalog is only the 2000 edition.  Since I collect "used modern US", I have looked through my album for the following.  Some of it is already present on yor site.

In 1996, Sc#3044 was issued: 1c Kestrel: coil, water activated

1998, Sc#3209a was a 1c stamp within the pane of Trans-Mississippi inverts that contained multiple stamps.

1998, Sc3257 was a 1c Weathervane with white USA lettering and a black 1998 date at the bottom.  The stamp was issued as a "make-up rate" so people could use up their 32c stamps when postage increased from 32c to 33c.

1998, Sc3258 was a very similar 1c Weathervane stamp from a different printer/supplier that had light blue USA lettering and a blue 1998 date at the bottom.

2000, Sc3031A was issued which was the 1c Kestrel from a self-adhesive pane (die-cut perfs on all sides" with the modified lettering (from "USA 01" to "USA 1c").  Note, Scott often goes back in time and inserts new numbers in sets when variations of a previous stamp were issued.  That said, it is beyond my understanding why this was not 3044A rather than the given 3031A.

2001, Sc3505a was issued as part of a souvenir sheet that contained modernized reprints of the 1c, 2c and 4c Pan-American Exposition invert errors (Sc#294a-296a -- issued in 1901).  The 1c stamp was, indeed, valid for postage.

2003, Sc3757 was issued as a 1c Tiffany lamp that is an evolving set of low value definitives.  I think there is a 4c Chippendale chair, a 5c toleware teapot, a 10c clock, and more to come over the next few years.

Not sure if I have mint copies of these that I could scan for you - but I know I have used copies of all of them in my album.  Let me know if you want the scans of the used copies.

Thanks Rodolfo and Tim

I would appreciate scans of any not shown on the site. Is the Tiffany lamp the current 1c issue?

On the $1 stamps, a scan of the Solar System MS would save me $10 and, again, what is the current $1 stamp?

I have started work on France with some strange results. I'm not sure where to go from there. Germany springs to mind, but which one? I guess it could be fun to show West and East in parallel while they were separate.

cheers, Nick

It's worse than that, Jim. A quick survey of my German catalogue suggests that there have only been four German 1pf stamps (excluding Officials and Occupation issues): one German in 1941; one West German in 1955 and two East German, 1950 and 1953.

I will clearly have to further compromise my original brief. So it goes.

Nick,

I am about to go on a week's vacation.  If I do not send scans of the stamps by the 21st of March, please give me a gentle nudge.  That would clearly mean that it has escaped my memory (and the note I made is somewhere under the stack of other notes).  I can also supply scans of all the $1 stamps to current - including the solar system issues.

Regarding what the current issues are...  the US postal system keeps many definitives alive in overlapping periods.  Currently available in the post offices are both the 1c Tiffany lamp and the 1c kestrel (in both water-activated gum coil version and in self-adhesive sheet (perf all 4 sides) version).  For the $1 issues, it appears both the red fox and 2003 Wisdom issues are both available for general purchase.  I believe that the US postal system continues to sell definitives until all printed supplies become exhausted - vastly different than the practice of destroying multitudes of commemoratives hen their pre-established selling period ends.

Check the site before you scan. I'm off to a lcal stamp fair today and might fill some of the holes.
I also hope to get the affordable French and German issues.

(Question to all) Any requests for the next subjec? I'm thinking Egypt, as I have most of those already.
Cheers,

Did you fill some holes at the stamp fair?

A few USA, but I did a lot better with France and Germany, now available, with New Zealand and Egypt on the way.

Rodolfo
I did not receive the remailing, or perhaps I did but your message was rerouted - I get hundreds of pieces of junk mail daily (the price of having my various email addresses listed on the web site) and therefore have a lot of blocks and filters. If it is to hand, could you please send it again with a different heading?

Cheers
