The End of Yugoslavia
« on: February 07, 2003, 09:10:25 PM »

Since Tuesday, February 4, Yugoslavia doesn't exist anymore. New country has been established and it's name is Serbia and Montenegro.

I certainly don't want to steal your thunder, Edo, but members may want to look on page 2 of the First Issues newsletter. Volume 11, Number 1.  This said, Edo certainly provided a great service in giving more information as to the exact date of Yugoslavia's demise as a stamp issuing entity.

I thought I had seen a post on this in the rec.collecting.stamps.discuss newsgroup, so I went back and looked.  Here is what I found...

Quote
Collectors should note that the new stamps of Serbia and Montenegro may be short-lived.  An item in the new constitution allows for a referendum to be held after three years to determine if the two shall split.

There were a couple of replies to this post which joked about the possibility of having bisected stamps from Serbia and Montenegro in the event they do split in a couple of years... and another wondering why Serbia was listed on the left and Montengro on the right when the reverse is true when looking on a map.  Interesting banter.

Yes, I saw your announcement in newsletter Tim. That provoke me to post news about actual date.

Interesting point from newsgroup. Nobody in this part of the world believes that this will last too long. Everything points that their intentions is to split apart. At least Montenegro has that intention.

Montenegro actualy already issue postal tax stamps for a some time now.

This is probably old news now, but there's a picture of the first two stamps in Stamp Mag - I'll upload a scan at home. The article states, "the 16 and 28,70 dinar values ... both honour the Council of Europe and show the design, by Radomir Bojancic, of a sylised 'e' and 12 stars over a map of Europe".

All,

I just acquired my set of these 2 stamps, mint never hinged.  Paid $2 (which I have no idea is a good or bad price).  Anyone else interested in owning a set at this price (plus postage)?

I have some left.  Let me know if you want a set.  I will offer all the sets I have left at the end of July in the next FICC auction (#28) at the base price of $2 with any bid amounts above the $2 going to the FICC treasury.

It is nice to see, that Serbia and Montenegro are stated in Scott, to talk about how it will end, like country, is not important for philately, but what is most important, is:
they issue stamp, and they have "low" profile on market.
Qty issued of each issue are around 30-50 000, and I think, it is good to invest.
Today scott catalog it grade with nice $ position, and loking in Michel catalog for sheet of 8 is real surprise.
Personally I think, it will have good return in next 2-3 yr.

Hi Miloje,

Welcome aboard! Your views about SiCG stamps are very interesting. It will be interesting to look how things will develope. There will be probably more first issues from this part of the world (although probably not #1's).

What are your collecting interests?

Hi Miloge,

Allow me to also welcome you aboard this Forum, as we are not strangers.  The world does indeed get smaller and smaller as we meet old friends in new places.

Edo and David Shalom from Israel!!

Right today I received new issue from Serbia and Crna Gora, topic WWF, it is second in short time period.
With all info, I received market info, that "First Flight" issue are sold out, and in sheet of 8+tab are now "high" on market, up to 60.00 euro per sheet. To my sorrow, I sold it to new issue subscriber by face value + 30%, what to do, this is life.
According this info, I think that SiCG issue will reach status like SSSR till 1958, where it will be hard to find material.
Now question is how long it will live - I think for next 5 yr. minimum, with great chance to continue, and with some sign that all ex-Yugoslavia republic are "thinking" to made again "wedding".

David, first issue of Jordan - You have?
I have some new contact there, I will try to obtain it if You need, and Inia?

What I collect? Edo - You know, like dealer with stamp, I collect almost nothing - because "all are for sale".
Personally, I have complete 10 yr. of Slovenia (new) with all variation, speculative issue, FC overprint etc, same are with Slovakia (new and old), Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, SiCG, and some Error on SFR Jugoslavia (not certificated).

best regards
Chastven Miloje
